Work From Home (WFH) Policy Template

This template provides a basic structure for your work from home policy.

Our business thrives on consistent hard work from everyone on the team. It's what makes us who we are, wherever we are. And the nature of our business allows a great deal of flexibility as to where we work.As such, we have established a work from home (WFH) policy that ensures everyone can work comfortably to accomplish team and company goals. Understanding this policy will help you to work effectively and know exactly what the expectations are.

This policy applies to any employee whose job duties allow for it. However, positions that require direct physical contact with customers (like the salesfloor) are not eligible for work from home. Some extenuating circumstances may post exceptions when possible.

Our company’s WFH policy

Team members may work from home:

  • Full-time
  • Part-time (dividing daily time between the office and home)
  • On pre-determined days of the week

And work from home arrangements may be temporary, as needed, or permanent. Please note: All work from home arrangements must be discussed and approved by [the employee's immediate manager].Working from home is a great opportunity and provides much flexibility. That said, working from home should not impact an employee's ability to perform their assigned duties and meet expectations, targets, deliverables, and other goals. If productivity concerns arise, a supervisor will schedule a meeting to discuss them with the employee.Indicators of concern include:

  • Decreased productivity
  • Sporadic or untimely communication
  • If these concerns are unable to be resolved, the employee's WFH eligibility will be revoked.

How to request to work from home

To request to work from home, please talk to [your direct manager]. For more permanent changes (meaning, those that go beyond a few days), your manager will review your request with the following considerations in mind:

  • Are the employee's regular work responsibilities conducive to working from home?
  • Is the employee's home environment favorable for work?
  • Will working from home make collaboration with team members unacceptably difficult?
  • Does the employee have the necessary equipment and services (such as a company laptop) to be effective?
  • Are there concerns relating to cybersecurity, data, or other privacy issues?

If approved, they will file any necessary paperwork with [HR].Please note: Your supervisor may request more information or schedule a meeting to discuss your request in more detail. The goal is to identify the best scenario that allows for satisfaction and productivity.

Our company’s mandatory WFH policy

There may be rare circumstances when a mandatory Work From Home policy may be applied, including:

  • Weather
  • Emergencies
  • Personal health or health crisis
  • Overly long commute

When such an event or circumstance occurs, [company leadership] will notify employees via [email], letting them know when and how long everyone will be working from home.
